Tuesday, June 21, 2005: SPR Application Deadline
July 22-23, 2005: The Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center sponsors it's first annual conference in pediatric bioethics on "Current Controversies in Pediatric Research Ethics" to be held July 22-23, 2005, in Seattle, Washington. This conference will focus on pediatric research-regulations, issues related to consent and assent, ethical conduct, defining minimal risk, academic and industry relations and conflicts of interest. Registration fee is $150 before May 1st and $225 after May 1st. Access additional conference information and register at www.seattlechildrens.org/bioethics

FACULTY MEETING - June 6, 2005The next faculty meeting will be held on June 6, 2005 (Sound Cafe: 5:30-6:00pm buffet dinner; 6:00-8:00pm program). This meeting will address current budgeting issues, improvements in hospital care, changes in Emergency Services and Departmental updates. In addition, the Fellows' Research Day awards will be presented.
Bioethics ConferencePlease note the above dates of our first Pediatric Bioethics Conference. Doug Diekema, MD, asked that I send the following information to you:
Since this conference focuses on pediatric research ethics, faculty who attend one of the two days can consider their attendance to qualify as human subjects protections training. This might be particularly useful for new faculty and research personnel who might otherwise have to attend one of our scheduled training sessions. Our IRB office will provide anyone who attends one day of the conference a letter that confirms they have completed human subjects protections training. They can then use that letter for submission with NIH grants, etc.
Faculty NewsBonnie W. Ramsey, MD, is now the holder of the Bonnie W. Ramsey Endowed Chair in Cystic Fibrosis at the University of Washington. This gifted endowment in Bonnie's honor was formerly the Bonnie W Ramsey Professorship. Congratulations, Bonnie.
