Faculty/Housestaff News

Michelle Terry, who works at UWPN/Des Moines, and teaches in the School of Medicine College was awarded a two year Soros Fellowship in Physician Advocacy. There were four fellows selected from an applicant pool of around 50. The fellowship will cover 50% of her salary. She will be based at Harborview, and collaborate with the Children's Alliance. Her project will involve attempting to link pediatric care and nurse home visiting to Harborview's Maternity Support Services (MSS). What this means: The highest risk OB patients in the state are seen at Harborview, and provided nurse and social service support services. They then deliver at UWMC. But there is no automatic link afterwards to pediatric follow up, and especially to nurse home visits. Basically she will be trying to get the Health Department to carry out the David Olds model of nurse home visiting for high risk families.

Mark Grubb, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor practicing in Bonney Lake, WA is going to Amsterdam on April 24 to present a paper to the 2005 Otitis Media International meeting. His paper is entitled "Safety of Office-Based Tympanocentesis". The web site for the meeting is www.om2005.nl.

Congratulations to the Hematology/Oncology, ID/Virology, Cardiology and GI clinics for being "best practice" clinics with wait times of less than two weeks for new, non-emergent referrals.
