Friday, November 19, 2004, 8:00am-12:00pm: New Faculty Orientation. This program gives new faculty an overview of the School of Medicine, helpful faculty resources, and an opportunity to meet some of the School's leaders. All new faculty and those who have not attended are encouraged to mark this date on your calendar. Details forthcoming.

Tuesday, December 7, 2004, 2004 8:30 a.m. - 12:00pm in the South Campus Center, Room 316L.: Faculty Development Workshops for the UW School of Medicine, presented by the Department of Medical Education and Biomedical Informatics, will begin in December. Date and topic for upcoming workshop: December 7, 2004: Clinician-Educators: Staying on Track and Getting Promoted. All School of Medicine and Health Sciences faculty are invited to register to attend a 2005 Faculty Development Workshop. Enrollment is limited and registration is required. Sunday, January 30, 2005: A one day PALS Provider course for physicians will take place on January 30th and will be advertised by mail to AAFP and AAP members in Washington in the next few weeks. Go to the medical staff web site http://medicalstaff.seattlechildrens.org for additional information and registration. This compressed PALS course should be attractive to the experienced physician who is in need of PALS certification for practice credentials.

This 391 page report was recently published by the National Academy of Sciences. Bonnie Ramsey, MD was a member of this prestigious committee.

Congratulations to the 2004 Family Choice Award Winners: Jeff McLaughlin, MD, Neurodevelopment, and Beth Tarini, MD, recipient of the Family-Centered Care Resident Award.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2004 Family Experience Survey Awards for the Third Quarter: Greg Redding, MD, Patty Hovik, and Arlene Libby, of the Pulmonary Clinic, and Patty Hovik, Arlene Libby, Jane Burns, MD, Kathey Mohan, ARNP and Craig Rubens, MD, PhD, of ID/Virology.

Richard Molteni, MD, FAAP, was appointed to the CPT Advisory Committee by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

William Walker, MD, was recognized for his work with CAMP (Children's Association for Maximum Potential) in the October addition of AAP News.

PUBLICATIONS

Congratulations to Richard Molteni, MD, FAAP, who was an associate editor of the textbook, Pediatrics, edited by Lucy Osborn, MD (a previous UW/CHRMC resident), Thomas Dewill, MD, Lewis First and Joseph A Zenel, MD. Craig Jackson, MD (7 chapters), Jordan Symons, MD, and Troy Johnston, MD, each contributed chapters to the newborn section, along with Rich.

Congratulations also to Charlotte Lewis, MD, MPH, for her chapter entitled, "Dental Disorders", in the same textbook edited by Osborn, Dewill, First, Zenel.

Congratulations to Christine Gleason, MD, who was the new co-editor of the recently released 8th edition of a major neonatal textbook: Avery's Diseases of the Newborn (Taeusch W, Ballard R and Gleason C, editors). Peter Tarczy-Hornoch and Sunny Juul each contributed a chapter.
