ED Embarks on Two-Year Continuous Process Improvement Project
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, led by Tony Woodward, MD, MBA; Mark Del Beccaro, MD; Dawn Cotter, RN; and Kris Lavin, RN, initiated a formal process improvement effort in May that is expected to continue for the next one to two years. The division is working with external consultant Larry Godt and Hospital Administration sponsors to conduct workshops of multidisciplinary teams, in which ED staff members assess current care processes and workflow issues with an eye toward improvement. The goals of the project include delivering consistent, quality patient care; maintaining and enhancing the ED educational program; and increasing the satisfaction of ED customers, which include patients, families, community providers, trainees, internal Children's departments, and ED staff.
