Clinical Programs
The Adolescent Medicine Section/Division of General Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is a multidisciplinary group of clinicians, who are committed to providing excellent care for adolescents within the local Seattle community and the WWAMI region. We provide consultative care at the CHRMC and Harborview with specific expertise in eating disorders, chronic pain (headache, stomach pain, and musculoskeletal pain), gynecology and school failure. We also provide care to underserved adolescents at the King County Department of Youth Services and the Country Doctor Free Teen Clinic.

Research Programs
Our research program is designed to address key areas that affect the health of adolescents. We have expertise in STD research, behavioral change interventions to decrease sexual risk behaviors in adolescents, the impact of mental health disorders on physical health, somatic symptoms, and health services interventions to improve the treatment of adolescents with mental health disorders in the primary care setting. In our research, we benefit from close collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry, the Center for AIDS & STD Research, Public Health Seattle & King County, the Child Health Institute and Division of General Pediatrics, and the Group Health Cooperative Center for Health Studies.
Training Programs
We are committed to training providers of all stages and disciplines to meet the health care needs of adolescents and their families. All of our clinicians are actively involved in teaching both locally and nationally. We have a close relationship with the residency program, medical school and school of nursing and provide regular lectures and frequent direct supervision for trainees in these areas. We have an active adolescent medicine fellowship program formed in cooperation with colleagues at the Center for AIDS and STD Research.
