 Welcome. The Department of Radiation Oncology is an integral part of the Cancer Program at the University of Washington. We have been consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as among the top cancer programs in the United States. With the formation of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a three-way collaboration among the University of Washington Academic Medical Center, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, our program has made an additional leap forward. We also staff radiation oncology services at the Overlake Cancer Center, Olympic Medical Radiation Oncology Center and the Seattle VA Medical Center.
There are 14 M.D. faculty, 7 Ph.D. faculty, and 8 residents on staff with additional postdoctoral fellows and graduate students participating in various research projects in radiation biology and molecular medicine, medical physics, and radiation chemistry. Our residency training program in radiation oncology is considered among the best in the nation. Our clinical program offers services such as fast neutron radiotherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy, specialized brachytherapy (implant) procedures, and pediatric radiation oncology that are not available in most cancer treatment centers. We utilize a multidisciplinary clinic approach to patient care, which makes it easy for patients to receive expert opinions regarding treatment options. Our clinical faculty specialize in the treatment of particular cancers and are recognized experts in their areas of interest.
