FEATURED HUSKIES FROM THE 29TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

"My time at the UW allowed me to better understand my multifaceted identity as an Indo-Fijian and First Generation student. From my study abroad experience to my campus job to my research, I was able to incorporate my identity into my work and embrace the identity of those around me. The Husky 100 serves to remind me of my place in the world and the good that I can still bring into it."

SERVING THE 29TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

The UW facilitates hundreds of programs in communities across the state. Below are a few that operate in your district. Programs active as of January 2023.

Forefront Suicide Prevention–Safer Homes, Suicide Aware

Safer Homes, Suicide Aware promotes programming led by the UW’s Forefront Suicide Prevention program to educate the public about how easy access to lethal means, including firearms and medications, can contribute to suicides. The program focuses especially on men ages 35–64 and veterans, who are statistically more likely to use firearms to end their lives. The work is guided by a task force that includes diverse perspectives and develops innovative, impactful strategies.

UW in the High School

Through the UW in the High School program, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can complete University of Washington courses — and earn college credit — in their own classrooms with their own teachers. Teachers are approved and trained by UW faculty to teach official UW courses using UW curriculum, activities, texts, tests and grading scales. Participating students can earn college credits at a fraction of the cost, and these credits are accepted by most colleges and universities across Washington and around the country. Partner high schools can offer UW coursework in computer science, math, science, world languages, humanities and social sciences. Young Executives of Color

Young Executives of Color (YEOC) is a nine-month college pipeline program hosted by the UW’s Michael G. Foster School of Business. YEOC focuses on engaging high school students of color in a comprehensive curriculum that includes college preparation, professional development, business lectures and powerful mentorship. The program, which is free to students, currently serves 190 students from over 75 high schools around Washington state.
