Check Your HTML Coding
Would you like to have someone check your Web pages, looking for bad tags, missing links, or misspelled words? There is a collection of web sites that will do just that. For most of these sites, all you need to do is provide the URL, and the program returns a review and some suggestions that may improve the speed of your page.
W3C validator checks pages only for conformity to the HTML standards, including the W3C HTML and XHTML recommendations. Although this program only lists the errors in the code, programs to fix the code automatically are available (see Tidy).
Tidy will correct mistakes in the HTML code and generate warnings about potential problems. You may use Tidy online or download Tidy.
Dr. Watson, is an easy-to-use, free program that will analyze your HTML coding, verify links, generate word counts, check the spelling on non-HTML text, estimate download speeds, check search engine compatibility, and check site link popularity.
The Net Mechanic , will check five pages of your site for free. You may see the results immediately for your first page or have them emailed to you. The program rates your site on the HTML code, links, browser compatibility, load time, and spelling. You may view detailed reports which offer suggestions for correcting your errors.
Xenu's Link Sleuth is another great link checking tool. It offers link checking for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Web Sites, images, frames, plug-ins, backgrounds, style-sheets, scripts, and Java applets. This free program is available only for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
