Catalyst e-Portfolio Research
In coordination with this contest, Catalyst is conducting a research study to examine what goes into creating an effective e-portfolio. Entrants will be asked to complete an optional questionnaire about the skills they used to create their e-portfolios. This optional questionnaire appears after the required sections of the contest entry form. The questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. After the contest is over, Catalyst will analyze responses to the questionnaire in order to better understand participants' experiences with e-portfolios. We will also use the questionnaire responses to invite some participants to talk about their e-portfolio design process in an interview. These optional interviews will be scheduled after contest results are announced. We will review the required sections of the contest entry form submitted by participants' who chose to complete all or part of the optional questionnaire, so that we can contact potential interview subjects. We will only use participants' contact information to email potential interview subjects; we will destroy the link between questionnaire responses and participants' contact information (name, address, email, and phone number) no later than September 2007. We will use the results of this contest and study to create resources to teach UW faculty and students about the effective use and design of e-portfolios. Although we hope the findings of our study will benefit future e-portfolio users, you may not directly benefit from participation in this research. Some people feel that providing information for research is an invasion of privacy. Participation in all components of the study is voluntary. Neither the questionnaire nor the interviews will have any bearing on the outcome of the contest. Study information will be kept confidential. If you have questions about this research study, please contact Cara Lane at 206-616-0291. If you have questions about your rights as a research subject, you can call the Human Subjects Division at 206-543-0098.
