Add and format text in a content section.

Each text section has a section title; delete the placeholder text, and type your own title for the section. If you leave the section title blank, the title area will not appear on your published page.

You can enter text into each content section by typing directly in the text area or copying and pasting from a word processing program.

Once you have finished entering your text into the content section, click Format Text Format text. SimpleSite will then add the HTML code necessary preserves line breaks and paragraph formatting of your text.

You can also format and insert text, such as making the text italic or bold. Follow the steps below to insert formatted text into a content section:

  1. Click Insert Formatted Text Insert formatted text. The "Insert Formatted Text" window will appear.
  2. Type or copy and paste the text you would like to format and insert into the space provided. Use the menus below to apply formatting. The menu options are explained below:

    Font style: Use this menu to make your text italic, oblique, or normal.

    Font weight: Use this menu to make your text bold.

    Text decoration: Use this to underline your text or strike-through.

    Text alignment: Use this to align your text to the right, left, or center of the content section.
  3. Click Insert. Your formatted text will be inserted into the content section at the end of any existing content.

You can only format and insert text at the end of existing content. We recommend you take time to plan out your content in advance, so that you can enter or format and insert text in order. Once text is formatted, the HTML code required to display it correctly can make it difficult to edit your text.
If your content section displays without the editing tools, click the edit icon (see illustration on the right).

Create a link in a content section.

The content section toolbar also enables you to insert a hyperlink without knowing HTML.

To create a link, follow the steps below:

  1. Position your cursor where you'd like the link to appear in your content section.
  2. Click Insert link insert a link button . The "Insert/Modify Link" dialog box will appear.
  3. Type or paste text that will become the link in "Link text" box.
  4. You have three ways to create links:

    URL: Type the URL of the Web site to which you want to link in the space provided. Be sure to include "http://".

    Select a page or file: If you want to link to another page or file on your Web site, click Select, then click the Web page or file to which you want to link in the file tree in the left frame.

    Catalyst tools: To create a link to one of your existing Catalyst tools, click Link to one of your Catalyst tools at the bottom, expand the tree, and locate the tool to which you want to link. Click the title of the tool, and the path will appear in the URL field.
  5. To create a tooltip (text that appears when a user hovers their mouse over the link) enter text you want to appear when someone hovers over your link in the "Title" area. You can also leave this option blank.
  6. If you want your link to open in a new browser window or specific frame, select the appropriate option from the "Target" drop-down menu. "New" will open your link a new browser window; "None" (default) replaces the current window with the linked page.
  7. Click OK. You will return to the text area with your link created. To test your link, you must preview your Web page.

Insert an image in a content section.

To insert an image that is already on a Web server (on your Web site):

  1. Click insert an image button . The "Insert Image" dialog box will appear.
  2. Enter the URL of an image, or click Select and then select the image file from the folder tree in the left frame. If you would like to preview the image before inserting it into your Web page, click Preview. The image will appear in the "Image Preview" space below.
  3. Enter alternate text for accessibility purposes in the space provided. Alternate text is displayed when the image doesn't load properly, or read by those using screen readers to surf the web.
  4. Select the desired alignment for the image from the "Alignment" drop-down menu.
  5. If you would like a border (black) around your image, enter the thickness of the border in number of pixels in the "Border" field.
  6. Click Insert. Preview your page to view your inserted image.

To upload and insert an image:

  1. Click insert an image button . The "Insert Image" dialog box will appear.
  2. Click Choose file and locate the image on your computer.
  3. Click Select and select the folder in which you want to save this image from the folder tree in the left frame.
  4. Click Upload. The image will be saved on your Web site, and the URL will appear in the "Image URL" field.
  5. To upload another image, repeat steps 1-3. To insert this image into your Web page, follow steps 3-6 above.

Insert a symbol in a content section.

To insert a symbol in a content section:

  1. Position the cursor where you want to insert the special character or symbol in your content section.
  2. Click Insert Symbol inset symbol button. The "Insert Symbol" dialog box will appear.
  3. Choose your symbol from those displayed in the dialog box. If your symbol doesn't appear, try choosing a different symbol set using the drop-down menu at the top of the box.
  4. Click once on your desired symbol. SimpleSite will enter the HTML code for your symbol into your content section.. Click Preview to see your symbol displayed on your Web page.
