Learning & Scholarly Technologies supports UW faculty, researchers, students, staff, and clinicians in their uses of technology to invent new frontiers in research and education. Our initiatives and partnerships address teaching and learning technologies such as the Catalyst effort at a university-wide level, and conduct related technology oriented outreach activities.
Position
Learning & Scholarly Technologies is seeking a responsible and proactively-minded student to be our office assistant. The ideal candidate will be someone who is able to work independently, and without follow up reminders. Salary starts at $8.55 per hour with quarterly opportunities for increases.
Typical duties and responsibilities include:
- Greet, assist and direct visitors to the suite
- Answer phones and direct callers
- Pick up and sort incoming and outgoing mail
- Keep office supply inventory / Order office supplies
- Schedule meetings
- Stay abreast of office and staff events
- Data entry
- Other projects and tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Previous experience answering a multi-line telephone
- Web savvy; ability to do internet research
- Thorough, responsible, and proactive
- Assertive and willing to ask for clarification when necessary
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Detail oriented
- Ability to work independently and without reminders or follow up
DESIRED (but not Necessary)
- Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator skills
- Web publishing skills (HTML or other)
- Management, supervisory or team leadership experience
Basic Requirements
- Student employees must be matriculated UW students
- Federal law requires that new employees provide proof of identity, citizenship or employment authorization status, and a social security number
- A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification
- The position requires 15 - 19.5 hours per week.
- Applicants must have at least three consecutive quarters of school remaining at the UW
