Data associated with cloud services such as Office 365 and Google Apps is subject to the same policies that regulate all other types of electronic records at the UW. As a result, contracts are in place with the vendors to address many important legal, regulatory, and compliance issues.
Data stored using a cloud service is still considered a UW record. When using a cloud-based platform, you are responsible for following the University’s Administrative Policy Statements regarding information security and privacy. See University’s Information Security and Privacy Policies.
Cloud services are covered by the same rules that govern all other computing resources. For more information, see the UW's Appropriate Use Guidelines.
For UW Medicine Users
Before using any cloud services for patient data, please see the UW Medicine guidance at Being Secure in the Cloud.
