Apple Software

Overview

Under the 2013-2014 agreement, Apple Macintosh OS X, iWork and iLife software may be installed and used on all UW-owned Apple computers. Obtain (free) updates via the Apple on-line store. Note that "OS X Server" is a separate product and is not covered by the UW license.

License Details

The license provides this software for Apple systems owned by the University of Washington. This software is not for systems owned by individual students, faculty or staff.

Individual registration of products under campus license is not required. If prompted to register, you may skip that step.

There is no additional charge to departments. The costs for this software are covered by the basic service bundle.

Get Software

UW faculty and staff can obtain the software for their UW-owned Apple computer in one of two ways:

Note: IT staff may store copies for later use on multiple systems they manage.

Available Software

OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks")

The current Apple Macintosh operating system, released November 2013.

Product description

Minimum system requirements:

OS X 10.9 "Mavericks" is a free upgrade provided directly from Apple. Obtain OS X 10.9 through the Apple on-line store.  You will need to use an "Apple ID" to login to the store, but any Apple ID may be used as there is no charge.

OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion")

Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard")

A previous Apple Macintosh operating system, released August 2009.

The UW license permits systems to be updated to OS X 10.6. Systems must be running OS X 10.6.8 before updating to 10.7.

Software for documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Includes Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
