Planned Changes
Example: Internet Explorer (IE) Upgrades:
- Windows XP systems were upgraded to IE8 in in 2012.
- Windows 7 systems will begin upgrading to IE9 in February 2013.
- Description of Phases
- Planning phase: Proposed changes are discussed with Nebula Technical Users Group, who can identify the software concerns and business needs of their departments.
- 4 weeks out: Send a general email to self-subscribed
Nebula-Announce list.
Example: IE9 upgrade begins in February 2013 for Win7. - 3 weeks out: Send email to Technical Contacts.
Example: The computer listed below is scheduled to be upgraded to IE v9 in three weeks. You are listed as the technical contact. If this computer should be exempted from this upgrade, please notify us within 14 days. If the information below is incorrect, you can use the myNebula pages to make changes - 1 week out: Send email to Primary User.
Example: Your computer will upgrade to IEv9 next week. When you first launch IEv9, you will need to answer one question. We recommend that you choose to "Use recommended security and compatibility settings". [If applicable:] Your department's technical contact has already approved this change.) - 0 day: Change is applied.
- Definitions

- Nebula Technical Users Group (NTUG): liaisons for their department for project planning and technical information related to the Nebula Managed Desktop Service. They participate on behalf of their departments in NTUG meetings and emails.
- Nebula-Announce maillist: receive announcements regarding changes to the Nebula service; you can manage your membership.
- Technical Contact: receive early notice of the specific computers and/or users who are scheduled for the next phase of upgrades or service changes; these individuals can request changes to their departments deployment schedule.
- Primary User: uses the computer on a day-to-day basis. Conference room computers and laptop loaners might not have a Primary User.
