Service Description

UW-IT Workshops
UW Information Technology provides resources for students, faculty and staff to develop technology skills through free walk-in computing workshops and access to internal online curriculum. Paid custom workshops for faculty and staff professional development are also available.

Service Options

Walk-In Workshops
Computing workshops scheduled by instructors are offered quarterly at no charge.

Workshops are offered in these five categories:

  • Web Publishing
  • Digital Video
  • Graphics and Presentation
  • Digital Audio
  • Documents and Spreadsheets

Walk-in workshops are designed and taught by our student instructors and are offered in a fun, casual atmosphere. To attend, you will need a current student, staff or faculty UW NetID. Registration is optional. However, if a workshop fills, seating preference will be given to registered participants.

Custom Workshops
Custom workshops are available upon request. Custom workshops for Canvas, Tegrity and Catalyst are offered free of charge. Other custom workshops are free only to courses in the UW Time Schedule and to student groups.

Interested faculty and staff groups may arrange a custom workshop for a fee.

Online Curriculum
Many of the walk-in workshops have online curriculum anyone can use and review online at any time. Please go to our workshops page and select the workshop you attended or are interested in to view the online curriculum. There is an “online curriculum” section on the right of this page, which includes curriculum for non-current workshops.

Alternatively, "How-To Guides" for Canvas, Catalyst Web Tools and other teaching and learning tools are available online at uw.edu/lst/help.

Microsoft IT Academy

UW-IT retired the UW Microsoft IT Academy (ITA) service on September 15, 2014.

UW students, faculty and staff can access the Microsoft IT Academy’s digital courses and certifications through libraries across the state of Washington instead of the smaller subset UW could offer. Below are links to a few local libraries now offering ITA access using your library card.

Eligibility

UW faculty; UW staff; UW students; UW faculty and staff may attend on a space available basis.  Online curriculum is available to all.

Availability

Walk-in workshop classroom instruction is provided in Mary Gates Hall and Odegaard Undergraduate Library. Schedules vary, but classroom instruction generally is offered afternoons, Monday through Friday, with some weekend offerings. Most courses require current student, staff or faculty UW NetID.

Walk-in Workshops
All walk-in workshops are offered at no charge.

Custom Workshops
Some custom workshops are available for free, others are free only to specific groups; cost depends on payment method and scheduled time.

Paid custom workshops for faculty and staff are arranged by the following price schedule:
