MyUW Mobile Now More Dynamic

Just in time for fall quarter, a more dynamic MyUW Mobile makes it easy for UW students to track registration and get details about classes, textbooks and other academic information on any mobile device. What is displayed will change as the quarter progresses, from registration and class and schedule information to links to grades after quarter’s end. UW-IT built the new platform with input from students, who said they wanted personalized content and help with time management. See Meet the New MyUW Mobile page.

UW Students: Learn About Technology, Win Prizes at the 2014 Tech Expo—Sept. 24

Find out more about the free technology, discounts and services available to you as a UW student at the Technology Expo on September 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Odegaard Undergraduate Library. Visit booths from several UW units, and also from Microsoft, Tableau, Apple, Parallels and more. Enter the student drawing for a chance to win prizes like iPad Minis, an Xbox One and a Dell Venue 7 tablet. The first 1000 attendees will receive a free T-shirt.

UWare: Software for the UW—Microsoft, Autodesk, SAS, SPSS and More

Did you know that the UW provides popular software for its students, faculty and staff at reduced or no cost through “UWare,” thanks to licensing agreements with vendors? The UWare service is a collaboration among UW Purchasing, UW-IT and other departments to provide a cost-effective way to license and distribute widely used software such as Microsoft products, Sophos anti-virus, Matlab, Tableau and more. A fresh new UW homepage is coming soon. The new Web page will include larger images, high-impact stories, fast facts, streamlined navigation and Quick Links to some of the UW’s most popular sites. The types of stories in the carousel atop the current UW homepage will now be highlighted on UW Today, a one-stop shop for news and information about the UW. UW Telecommunications Upgrade Underway

A major upgrade to the UW’s telecommunications systems is underway, with UW-IT implementing a new Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone service for 31,000 UW customers across all three campuses. This service will leverage a single network that integrates the delivery of voice, video and data, replacing an outdated infrastructure that is no longer supported by the vendor with modern technology. The new service will help meet the demand for collaboration and productivity tools to support students, faculty and staff. UW-IT will implement VoIP over the next three years, coordinated with other technology refresh efforts. Learn more.

UW students, faculty and staff can get an introduction to HTML5 programming as part of a series of fall Webinars offered by UW Professional and Organizational Development (POD). Additional topics include techniques or tips and tricks for Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Word, as well as Managing and Organizing Your Email Inbox in Outlook. Most are 1.5 hours and $65 on a UW Budget. Register online.
