UW Units Continue to Move to UW Exchange

UW departments continue to move to UW Exchange from Deskmail and local email services, enabling shared calendaring and fostering collaboration within and across units. All those participating in UW Exchange can see one another’s calendars, making it easy to schedule meetings.​ UW Exchange, one of several Microsoft Office 365 service offerings, provides email, calendaring, contacts and task management. UW-IT has successfully migrated 15,000 users to UW Exchange, and low-cost migration assistance is available for units wanting to move now. Get details.

UW Wi-Fi Gets Positive Ratings in Survey of Students, Faculty

UW students and faculty are much more satisfied with Wi-Fi on campus and in instructional spaces compared with students and faculty at peer institutions, according to a 2014 survey about technology experiences at the UW and other universities. UW students also rate ease of login and network performance higher than students at other colleges. The survey is conducted every spring by the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) in conjunction with UW-IT.

Survey Asks: What Is Your Experience With UW-IT?


A random sample of UW students, faculty and staff from all three campuses will be invited to complete a brief survey in early May about their experiences with UW-IT. The survey will ask about customer experiences with a selection of services including, collaborative tools, Wi-Fi, classrooms, research technologies and more. If you are invited, please take the survey to provide your feedback to UW-IT. The confidential survey will be administered by the UW Office of Educational Assessment, with results reported in the fall.

No Indirect Cost Charges on UW-IT Research Storage, Compute and Cloud Services

Effective April 1, UW-IT research storage, compute and contracted cloud services are no longer subject to the Facilities & Administrative (F&A) rate for sponsored research expenditures, reflected in the updated UW Grants Information Memorandum 13. UW-IT offers large-scale storage and compute services to UW’s research community, including cloud service from vendors such as Microsoft and Amazon, giving Principal Investigators options to expand or reduce usage, as well as migrate between services. “Relevant Events” on MyUW Mobile Helps Students Maximize Their UW Experience

UW students will soon see upcoming happenings that might be of interest to them, based on their major, on MyUW mobile’s just released “Relevant Events.” MyUW mobile pulls event data from departmental calendars that use the UW’s event calendar software, Trumba, and displays it for students. Learn more about how it works. Only calendars that run on Trumba can show events on MyUW mobile through this new integration. Departments that want to switch to Trumba can contact for assistance.

FY 2016 Technology Recharge Fee Will Help Address Rising IT Costs

The Technology Recharge Fee will increase by 1.9 percent in FY 2016 to address escalating costs of IT operations. This is the first net increase since the fee was implemented in FY 2011 and was recommended by the IT Service Investment Board and approved by the Provost. The fee provides support for essential information technology services delivered by UW-IT. Effective July 1, the rates will be $55.51 for academic and administrative units and $50.91 for the Medical Centers.
