Work From Off Campus Over The UW Phone System

UW Telecommuter VoIP Phones allow UW faculty and staff to connect to the UW phone system from an off-campus office. e.g. home. Through secure VPN technology, these phones work like you're on campus, providing staff and faculty the ability to work from home or an off-site office, as long as broadband internet access is available.  All UW phone features are available including:

  • UW Long Distance & RCS
  • Voice Mail
  • 5-Digit Dialing
  • Conference
  • Transfer
  • Call Logging

Call center access is also available allowing agents to meet the needs of their customers without having to commute to the office.

NOTE:  Telecommuters outside of Western Washington must purchase the VoIP phone. 

Telecommuter Requirements

- Broadband Internet Access (DSL/Cable/FiOS/Clear)
- Available Ethernet outlet within 15 feet of the VoIP Phone.
- Available surge-protected power outlet.
- DHCP or an available Static IP address to be assigned to the VoIP Phone.
- Router capable of passing IPSec VPN traffic (common for most routers).

Customer Installation Instructions

UW IT will configure the phone and have the equipment delivered to your campus office or shipped to your off-site location (additional shipping cost will be billed).

Global VoIP

Take A UW Phone With You Anywhere In The World

UW Global VoIP phones allow UW faculty and staff to connect to the UW phone system from anywhere in the world. Through secure VPN technology these phones works like your on campus. Global VoIP phones allow faculty, staff, and researchers to collaborate easily and reasonably affordable, with campus colleagues,  even when they are located across the globe. Available features include:

  • UW Long Distance & RCS
  • Voice Mail
  • 5-Digit Dialing
  • Conference
  • Transfer
  • Call Logging

Calls made from between Global VoIP phone and the Greater Seattle Area  can be made as a local call.

NOTE: Because the Global VoIP phone will be transported outside of Western Washington, the phone set must be purchased.

Telecommuter Requirements

- At least 64kbps download and 64kbps upload bandwidth.
- Local ISP must allow inbound/outbound traffic to TCP port 1443, UDP ports 500 and 4500, and the ESP transport protocol (Protocol 50).
- Available Ethernet outlet within 15 feet of the VoIP Phone.
- Available surge-protected power outlet.
- DHCP or an available Static IP address to be assigned to the VoIP Phone.
