UW Telecommunications Upgrade Underway

phones and computers

A major upgrade to the UW’s telecommunications systems is underway, with UW-IT implementing a new Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone service for 31,000 UW customers across all three campuses. This service will leverage a single network that integrates the delivery of voice, video and data, replacing an outdated infrastructure that is no longer supported by the vendor with modern technology. The new service will help meet the demand for collaboration and productivity tools to support students, faculty and staff. UW-IT will implement VoIP over the next three years, coordinated with other technology refresh efforts. Learn more.

Student on cellphone

You can receive cell phone plan discounts—ranging from 10 percent to 21 percent—if you are a student or employee at the UW or one of its affiliated organizations. UW-IT negotiated these discounts with AT&T and T-Mobile; inquire directly with them. In addition, cell phone services charged to a UW ProCard for department use can also take advantage of these and other savings, described on the UW’s Cell Phone Service page. Contact T-Mobile about additional discounts on new iPads and iPhones for UW paid accounts.

UW Teleconferencing Service Improvements Coming

teleconference in progress

A more reliable and secure UW teleconferencing service for subscribers goes live June 19, continuing to provide on-demand conference calls for up to 30 participants. This new version of the Meet-Me Conferencing service uses a new, single conference number (206-616-CONF), with each on-demand conference account having a distinct passcode, which helps with security and system administration. The current monthly rate for this service, provided through UW-IT, will remain the same. Get details.
