A closer view of the ALVA 544

The ALVA Braille display has 44 individual cells. Above the row of Braille cells are two rows of small buttons. The lower row are known as Touch Cursors, and the upper row are Double Touch Cursors. Each Braille cell has a corresponding Touch Cursor and Double Touch Cursor button.

The lower row acts as if you are left clicking following that character. The upper row acts as if you are right clicking before that character. The first three (3) buttons in each row are special buttons, they modify the way the ALVA Braille display shows the information from the screen.

There are six (6) keys that stand vertical against the front side of the Braille display. Their functionality is that is set by JAWS. A brief description is below:

Satellite Keypads

Each of the two front corners have circular keypads, that have six (6) buttons each. By default the one on the right side is called the Windows Satellite keypad. The inner buttons act like the arrow keys on the keyboard, while the larger ones on the outside are Back Tab (acting like pressing <Shift> + <Tab>) on the left and Forward Tab on the right. The keypad on the left side are set to JAWS commands.
