UW Joins Eduroam: Easy Wi-Fi Network Access at Participating Universities

UW students, faculty, and staff can now access Wi-Fi networks at 5,500 participating universities with their UW NetID by using eduroam—a worldwide free service providing instant, authenticated and encrypted network access. Set up your device for eduroam before you travel so it will automatically connect wherever eduroam is available. In turn, eduroam allows visitors from participating institutions to use their home university’s credentials to connect to the UW network. HuskyTV Now With Streaming and HBO GO

HuskyTV, UW’s all-digital cable television service, now includes up to 72 channels of live, streaming TV. It brings news, sports, education and entertainment, streamed live to your Web browser, iPad or Roku streaming player, anywhere at UW Seattle. The new service, powered by, lets you pause, record, and play back shows with the built-in online DVR. Subscriptions to HuskyTV include HBO GO, with on-demand access to HBO documentaries, movies and original programming almost anywhere in the US.  Visit to see an example of Streaming HuskyTV.

Tableau Data Visualization Software Now Available Through UWare

A powerful, easy-to-use data visualization tool, Tableau, is now available, with discounted licenses offered by UW-IT. With Tableau, you can easily create interactive graphics, reports and dashboards that allow you to ask questions and understand data in meaningful new ways. Tableau is available at no charge to faculty and full-time students through the Tableau for Teaching and Tableau for Students programs, and can be accessed on UWare. Analyze UW Data With New “UW Profiles” Dashboards

A dynamic new way to easily access, explore, and understand basic University data is now available. “UW Profiles” is a set of Web-based dashboards designed using Tableau data visualization software. It allows exploration and aggregation of UW data derived from the Enterprise Data Warehouse, UW’s single source of central administrative data. Browse the UW Profiles website and take an introductory video tour. To view and interact with the data, apply for access. UW Profiles is a collaboration of UW-IT and the Office of Planning & Budgeting.

UW's eTextbook Pilot Findings Published by EDUCAUSE

A new EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative brief, authored by the UW eTextbook pilot team, discusses the potential future of eTextbooks. Based on instructor and student feedback from the 2012-2013 UW pilot, it focuses on five key areas where specific enhancements could help eTextbooks realize their potential to transform teaching and learning: better pricing, moving beyond the printed page, true anytime/anywhere access, greater availability, and better integration into the larger digital learning ecosystem. Discounts on Cell Phone Plans for UW Students, Employees

You can receive cell phone plan discounts—ranging from 10 percent to 21 percent—if you are a student or employee at the UW or one of its affiliated organizations. UW-IT negotiated these discounts with AT&T and T-Mobile; inquire directly with them. In addition, cell phone services charged to a UW ProCard for department use can also take advantage of these and other savings, described on the UW’s Cell Phone Service page. Contact T-Mobile about additional discounts on new iPads and iPhones for UW paid accounts.
