SecureCRT
Information about the IS NebulaW2K workstation, primarily
for IS workstation users, and other IS/C&C staff
The IS license for SecureCRT (Van Dyke
Technologies) allows users with a valid SecureCRT license on
their desktop to install one copy of the software on a PC at home.
Note: the software is for a single user so only one copy of the
software (either at work or at home) can be in use at one time.
Here are some instructions on how to
install and setup the software at home with the same license and
configuration setup as at work. If you have any questions or
concerns please contact nebula-support@cac.
FOR an UPGRADE
- If you are just upgrading your home
version you will mainly just need to get the new version
from Vandyke (see below) and then put the new license
information into the secureCRT.LIC file (see last section).
For a new Install
- Copy files from your work pc to a diskette
(or ftp them from home if you know how to do that). The
files you need are normally the entire directory I:\homedir\pcfiles\Scrt
(a bunch of .ini files and the 'keymaps'and 'Sessions'
directories).
- Our new license for SecureCRT works with v4.1.x.
Note, with v4 you do not need to use a license file, you
can enter the information and it will be saved in the
registry of your PC. (see below).
- Go to the Vandyke site and download
version 4. You may need to fill out the download
questionnaire with our work address and my work email but
I don't think it really matters as long as you are in the
US.
- Install SecureCRT by double-clicking on
the .exe file you just downloaded or just say open if
prompted.
- Copy your work files to your pc SecureCRT
directory. On your diskette from work (or where ever you
downloaded the files), rename the 'scrt' directory to 'config'.
Copy that directory to your C:\Program Files\SecureCRT
directory (or where ever you chose to install SecureCRT).
Windows should ask you to confirm the replace, to which
you should answer 'yes'.
Change all of your Sessions (*.ini) files
to point to your keymap files (*.key) on your C: drive,
not your I: drive the way we have it at work. With
Windows Explorer, open up each *.ini file in your C:\Program Files\SecureCRT \Config\Sessions
directory and change the 'Keymap Filename=' line from I:\homedir\pcfiles\Scrt\keymaps\*.key
to C:\Program Files\SecureCRT\keymaps\*.key (the
same keymap file name, just a different directory).
[not sure if this is required with the v4
release, will someone let me know if this is still an
issue.]Change all of your session (*.ini) files to start
with a lowercase letter. Evidently, SecureCRT doesn't
recognize .ini files that start with an uppercase letter
and Windows may have oh-so-nicely capitalized some of
them for you in the copy process.
SecureCRT 4.x License Data Entry
Instructions:
- If it is a new install, copy the following
information into the Windows clipboard.
Name: 100 Computer Right To Use License [2C22]
Company: University of Washington [B4F7]
Serial Number: 03-41-100415 [5FF7]
License Key:
ABV5WX 7HCPW9 EU53U9 GG3D4J ACVX5E P6SN6K 35JB4C DGYCY2 [3261]
Issue Date: 08-16-2004 [FB7F]
- Select "Enter License Data" from
the SecureCRT Help menu. The license data will be automatically
entered into the correct fields in the License wizard, save
settings, exit. Restart secureCRT.
If you are upgrading or have
trouble with the above steps on a new install, you can create a
plain text file called SecureCRT.LIC in the directory where
SecureCRT.EXE is located. For the license with serial number 03-41-100415,
this file would include the following lines.
Name=100 Computer Right To Use License
Company=University of Washington
Serial Number=03-41-100415
Key=ABV5WX 7HCPW9 EU53U9 GG3D4J ACVX5E P6SN6K 35JB4C DGYCY2
Issue Date=08-16-2004
