Fitness Instructor Bios (Summer 2014)

kristina Kristina, Strength Instructor

Kristina is a multi-tasking machine and is excited to add IMA Fitness Instructor to the various roles she plays at UW. She began working in the Psychology Department in 2009 and graduated with her Master of Public Administration degree in 2014.  Her interest in health and wellness began in high school when she joined the school dance team during her Sophomore year. Since then, Kristina has dabbled in all sorts of fitness activities like running, rock climbing, yoga, and hiking (not to mention the occasional home workout DVD). She loves anything that keeps her moving and enjoys new challenges, so her classes will get your blood pumping and keep you on your toes!

 

katherine

Katherine, Strength Instructor

Katherine started out teaching high/low aerobics in the 90’s.  She has recently taken FIT training and now teaches circuit training.  Her passion for fitness was fueled by the awareness of cardiovascular disease in her family.  Her aim in class is a balanced and safe workout that progresses throughout the quarter.  She asks you to come join the fun. When not teaching, Katherine maintains a busy schedule with three active dogs and a research career in pharmacology.

Jessica, Cardio Instructor

Jessica graduated from the F.I.T. program in 2014 and is thrilled to join the IMA team! She loves working with all fitness backgrounds and leading fellow Huskies towards happier, healthier, and fitter lives.  Jessica is majoring in cellular and molecular biology at the UW and hopes to study to become a pediatrician. Her passion for fitness began with her journey as a competitive figure skater for 10+ years. She has also practiced ballet, pilates, yoga, and strength training. Following her departure from competitive skating, Jessica discovered an amazing community in group fitness that inspired her to become an instructor. She also enjoys trying out new restaurants, playing Just Dance, and [trying] to sing.

Jamie, Cardio Dance Instructor

Jamie teaches Latin Cardio Dance at the IMA. Growing up in Provo, Utah, Jamie began dancing at a very young age and is experienced in various forms of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop, Tap, and Contemporary. In high school, Jamie was apart of the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio: Senior Dance Company, which competes in conventions nationally. She is currently a Senior at the UW’s Foster School of Business and is pursuing a career in public accounting. Some things that Jamie likes to do in her spare time include curating the TEDxUofW Conference, and working with the Alpha Kappa Psi Rho Chapter business fraternity. Jamie loves green tea ice cream, the composer Chopin, and enjoying time with friends and family.

Kristana, Cardio and Strength Instructor

Kristana graduated from the Fitness Instructor Training program in Spring 2013. Prior, she was an All-American Cheerleader and a regular in group fitness classes. She teaches cardio, cycling, and strength classes at the IMA. She is a Public Health major and is also active in Greek Life on the UW campus. Kristana is from the Greater Seattle area.

Lauren, Strength and Dance Fitness Instructor

Lauren has been working as a fitness instructor for about 3 years and has taught a variety of classes.  She received her B.S. in Exercise Science from Ithaca College.  She is an ACSM Health Fitness Specialist and ACSM Group Exercise Instructor.  She also recently graduated from the University of  Washington with her M.Ed. in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.  Her love for fitness and sport has motivated her to help others reach their goals in a group exercise and personal training setting.  She was also a former collegiate gymnast and has been involved with gymnastics for over 20 years.  Lauren is originally from NJ.

 

ray

Ray, Pilates Instructor

As a dancer/choreographer/teacher, Ray discovered Pilates while dancing in NYC on Broadway.  He was certified as a Pilates Instructor in 2003 and continues to work at the Pilates Seattle International, a training center, as well as other locations in the area. Along with Pilates, Ray has worked for the past 20 years as a research assistant at the UW for studies relating to exercise with a wide variety of populations.He was one of the founding members in 1996 of the production team that produced The Festival of Men in Dance, a non profit group. In 2013, Ray completed his studies and is now a Spiritual counselor. He likes to camp, eat good food, garden, hang with his friends, read, travel and see good theater

Andrea, Cardio Dance Instructor

Andrea has been a Cardio Dance instructor at the IMA for over two years.  She has six years professional dance experience with both the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks Sea Gals (five years) and the National Lacrosse League’s Washington Stealth Bombshells (one year). With 20+ years experience in various dance styles, Andrea enjoys combining jazz and hip hop styles with good old aerobics in her classes.  Andrea received her BA in Psychology from the University of Washington, and in her spare time, enjoys cooking anything and everything under the sun, keeping up with social media, and watching all Seattle sports teams (especially Seahawks and Husky football!). When it comes to dance and teaching classes, she believes it’s all about giving it your 110%…go big or go home.  Expect FUN, high-energy cardio routines to a variety of upbeat music styles in Andrea’s classes.

                                                         

Paige, Strength Instructor

Paige has beepaige (2)n active with sports and fitness all of her life. She played volleyball, basketball, tennis, and golf in high school and went on to play volleyball in college. She coached volleyball as well. Since college, she has been an avid runner and participated in dozens of exercise classes, including boxing, interval training, circuit training, cardio kickboxing, capoeira, and yoga. She completed the UW FIT program in 2014 and is excited to share her passion for exercise and fitness with others.

 

 

Bailey, Strength Instructor

Bailey is a passionatebailey Fitness Instructor who thrives off of the motivation of her students.  She has taught ABsolute Conditioning, Total Toning, and Circuit Training, but her absolute favorite class to teach is High Intensity Training (H.I.T.).  For a busy body who tends to spread herself thin, Bailey has always found exercise to be the perfect outlet.  She has been so inspired by the support and dedication of her students that she has decided to pursue education upon graduation.  With majors in Psychology and Spanish, she strives to teach Spanish and ELL, and then eventually work toward a position in educational leadership promoting equity and achievement.  More than anything, she hopes to instill hunger in her students; the hunger to grow and live happily, whether in the gym, the classroom or beyond.  In her spare time, Bailey enjoys weightlifting, cooking, traveling, and most of all spending time with her loved ones.

Stephanie, Cardio Instructor

Stephanie is excited to launch the Step Interval class at the IMA this summer! She has over 13 years of group fitness experience as a participant in classes ranging from yoga to bootcamp and has been a qualifying member of a trail racing team based out of Sierra Madre, California. Stephanie loves sharing her passion for fitness and the outdoors with others and is pumped to realize her long-time goal of teaching as a fitness instructor. Currently, Stephanie is completing her Masters in Social Work at UW and has a great appreciation for the therapeutic power of exercise in self care and resilience. Stephanie encourages all participants to try something new and hopes to see you in her class!

Jacque, Cardio Instructor

Jacque is going to be a sophomore at the University of Washington this coming autumn, and she is hoping to major in Informatics. She has been taking cardio kickboxing classes for the past 2-3 years, and she really likes jumping around and dancing. Her hobbies include boxing with the Husky Boxing team, running on random trails with her friends, and eating ice cream. She likes to make really bad jokes during class, so don’t mind her. Jacque is extremely excited to teach classes in the future, and to meet other people as passionate about fitness as her!
