Background

I have worked as a personal trainer since 2000. While pursuing a Master’s degree at Southern Illinois University, I served an internship in the cardiac rehabilitation unit at St. Mary’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. My experience also includes serving as a Fitness Assistant as part of a local hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation team. I have worked with clients of different ages and levels of fitness, including elderly and high-risk populations. The part of my job that I find most rewarding is seeing my clients not only improve their fitness, but also gain self confidence as their bodies change. I believe that all health and fitness is rooted in proper foundation of core strength and muscular flexibility. These two traits allow people to more fully develop and maintain other fitness traits such as cardiorespiratory power and muscular strength. When I’m not at work, I’m interested in running, music, history and travel. Health and fitness are good things, but they are a means to living the best life you can for yourself. Fitness should allow you to do more, to try more new things and to have more experiences that make your life worthwhile.

  • B.S. Kinesiology, Humboldt State University
  • Health Fitness Specialist (HFS), American College of Sports Medicine

Background

I’ve been a personal trainer since 2010, first in a hospital-based fitness center and most recently at a commercial gym. Although I enjoy working with a diverse range of people and abilities, I have also helped people recover from injuries or living with chronic illnesses. My exercise programs tend to emphasize functional strength training, core strength and high-intensity interval training. I also try to work in as much education as my clients are interested in, so you know what you’re doing and why, with the hope that you can gain the confidence to workout independently. As a trainer, the most rewarding part of my job is helping you gain the strength, mobility and confidence to feel great while doing the activities you enjoy. In my free time I enjoy cycling, ultimate frisbee, playing board games, quilting, working in my garden and dancing in flash mobs.

  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), National Strength & Conditioning Association
  • TRX Suspension Training® Group Course

Background

I’ve been a personal trainer and group fitness instructor since 2006. I am a Seattle native with a diverse athletic background that has influenced and shaped the way I train clients. I grew up playing traditional sports like football, baseball, basketball and track, but also dabbled in power lifting, parkour, yoga and rock climbing. I enjoy functional training, doing multi-joint exercises that require you to use your core. My workouts include using the TRX Suspension System, kettle bells and free weights, as well as incorporating body weight exercises. I’ve worked with OSU’s athletes, metabolic clients at the PRO Sports Club as well as individual who just want to lose weight and get in better shape. Depending on your goals, I will tailor a workout routine to meet your specific needs. In 2002, I competed in the WABDL’s world championship for the deadlift—and won! I competed in several world championships before retiring from the sport in 2005 to focus on rock climbing, snowboarding and yoga. When not training, you can find me up in the mountains rock climbing.

  • Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), American College of Sports Medicine

Background

As a personal trainer, the success of my client is the measure by which I judge my own success. In order for a goal to be realistic, a client’s fitness, nutrition and attitude must support it. Having worked in a variety of personal training and physical therapy settings, I have experience with wide-ranging goals and abilities. Whether you are starting from scratch or are an accomplished athlete, I will work with you to develop a challenging and fun program that promotes not only your goals but also your personal understanding of a healthy lifestyle. Having participated in volleyball, track, yoga, tennis, soccer, swimming and horseback riding throughout my life I have gained understanding of a wide variety of sport-specific training principles. I recently moved to Seattle in the hopes of pursuing graduate study of physical therapy at UW. My experiences as an aide and volunteer in a variety of physical therapy settings have strengthened my knowledge of prehab, rehab, and functional training. When I’m not training, volunteering, or taking classes, I enjoy the diverse recreational activities available in Seattle. Education & Certification

  • B.A. English & World Literature, Pitzer College
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), National Strength & Conditioning Association

Background

Every person is different, and what works for one may not work for another, but what we all have in common is the ability to reach our goals through hard, smart training and determination. For the past two years, I’ve pushed many of my clients past what they believed were their physical limits. I believe in intense training programs that are rich in variety, and that challenge not only the muscles and the cardiovascular system, but also the link between the mind and the body. Having trained in boxing, I often implement aspects of the sport into my training sessions, including focus mitt and heavy bag work. I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love to get a great workout by throwing some punches and relieving some stress. In my spare time, I love to stay active through various sports like trail running and boxing. I also enjoy playing the piano and listening to a wide-range of music.
