Many of you have expressed concern about whether the Washington state legislature would continue to provide adequate funding for the State Need Grant, which is an essential funding source for the Husky Promise program. Well, we have good news: The recently passed 2010 state supplemental operating budget maintains funding for the State Need Grant at current levels.

In addition, the federal government passed a bill in March that will increase funding for Pell Grants, another major source of Husky Promise funding, starting in the 2013–14 academic year. And, of course, the UW will continue to raise funds for student scholarships as well. Given the current economic climate, this demonstrates a strong, ongoing commitment to providing access to an affordable education to academically qualified students regardless of their economic background.
