(Ilex Aquifolium)

Against Raitt Hall are many English Hollies. With distinctive prickly evergreen leaves, high of gloss and usually armed with thorns and decorated by red berries, holly is known to all of us. Though Eurasian, English holly now comes up wild in Seattle. Humans have found and propagated spineless hollies and other variations with desirable features. The wood is very hard, pale, and useful for certain specialized things such as piano keys. [Leaves and fruit of English Holly]
