Graduation Checklist

Its easy to participate in Commencement. Just follow these steps.

1. Make sure you are eligible to participate and have

applied to graduate.

See Eligibility Page. Spring degree candidates must have their application to graduate and received by the April 13 deadline to have their names listed in the Commencement program.

2. Make sure you have met the April 13th deadlines related to having your name printed in the Commencement program.

3. Come to the Grad Fairs!

Mary Gates Hall Commons, April 4th and 5th, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

At grad fairs you can have your graduation portraits taken (no obligation to purchase - we'll supply the correct cap and gown) and see the latest announcements, frames, and rings.  Our lovable mascot, Dubs, will make a brief appearance around noon at each fair for photos on a first come, first served basis.

4. Order graduation announcements, class rings, diploma

frames.

It's never too soon or too late to let your friends and family know about your graduation.  Order your announcements and frames today!

5. Prepare to register

Determine the number of guest tickets and parking permits you will need to order. All reasonable ticket requests will be honored but we ask that you confirm the attendance of your guests before ordering the tickets. Determine if any of your guests will need an assistive listening (FM) device, a sign language interpreter, mobility impaired seating (for those who have trouble walking), wheelchair seating, or an extra ticket for an attendant. Measurements - Know your height in feet and inches and your weight in pounds. Ph.D.'s measure your head circumference one inch above your ears. All bachelor and master's mortarboards are one-size-fits-all.

6. Register/order (cap and gown, tickets, parking.*)

Return to this website between May 1 and May 20. The link to the Registration/Order Form will be in the upper right corner of the home page. Payment will be taken online when finalizing your order. Visa, MasterCard, debit card, or valid checking account number will be accepted.

Cap and Gown Prices: see Cap and Gown page. Caps and gowns are required for all CenturyLink participants.  Prices vary by degree.

*Parking permits - Please review the information on the Parking page of this website.  For Commencement, graduates will be provided with contact information allowing them to purchase pre-paid parking permits from CenturyLink Field when they complete the Commencement Registration/Order form. Prepaid permits will be $20.  Parking permits for School, College and departmental graduation-related events taking place on campus within normal parking hours can be purchased via the Commencement Registration/Order Form.

Individual School/College or Departmental Ceremony participants must order via the Registration/Order form if your ceremony requires cap and gown or parking permits. (Parking permits are required for all ceremonies occurring on campus during normal parking hours ) Payment will be taken when finalizing your order.

7. Pick up your order

Pick up your order at the University Book Store. You will select a pick up week when you place your order and you must pick up your order during the week you select.  Pick up will begin on May 22 and run through June 2.  Hours will be the normal University Book Store hours.  We'll be there Saturdays and Sundays too!

8. Come to CenturyLink Field, June 9th, and celebrate with family and friends! Student line up begins at 12:00 p.m. and concludes at 1:15. The procession of graduates into the stadium begins at 1:30 p.m.

You receive written instructions when you pick up your order.  They will explain where to line up at CenturyLink Field.  Line-up will take place in the CenturyLink Event Center, adjacent to and just south of the field, off Occidental Avenue.

Honor Cords

Special honor cords are awarded to undergraduate students who have earned baccalaureate honors (Cum laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude), College Honors, or Departmental Honors. Click on the links above for an explanation of these honors. Those eligible may purchase the cords for $12.00 on the web registration/order form. If you qualify for College or Departmental Honors, be sure you or your advisor submits your Departmental Honors Invitation to the Honors Program (MGH 211 or Box 352800) by April 13, 2012.

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed by the Office of the Registrar to the address selected by the student on MYUW. This will occur approximately 3 to 4 months after the date of graduation.
