During the 2005-2006 academic year, members of the elected faculty councils in all schools and colleges, and at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma, began a systematic process of reviewing and updating their bylaws – documents that describe the way in which the Deans and Chancellors and the faculties are to practice shared governance.

Because faculty bylaws will always vary in ways that reflect the particular culture of an academic unit, the intent of this initiative is to help each unit develop its own route to compliance with the Code’s requirements. During this academic year, it appears that most of the 18 faculties will be discussing and voting on their new bylaws.
