UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON HANDBOOK

PREFACE
This edition of the University Handbook is an expanded and updated revision of the 1969 Faculty Handbook. It is comprised of six volumes: Volume One treats the composition, duties and authority of the Board of Regents; Volume Two delineates the delegation of authority for the administration and faculty, and contains the Faculty Code and related matters; Volume Three focuses on materials of special interest to students; Volume Four presents general information and selected rules and policies of the University; Volume Five describes coordinating bodies within the State of Washington; Volume Six contains descriptions of the principal administrative committees and ancillary agencies, and the annual "Directory of the Faculty Senate."
The added material in Volume One, Two, Five and Six broadens the scope of the work and makes it more representative of the organization and functioning of the institution--more truly a "University" handbook.
The loose-leaf binder format of the 1969 edition has been retained to facilitate incorporation of approved amendments and supplements as they appear.
