Faculty Councils in Action

How Many Faculty Councils Does It Take to Play an Apple Cup?

Faculty Council members don’t suit up and take the field, and they don’t march with the Husky Band. But the faculty who serve on these councils do play a behind-the-scenes part, nevertheless.

University Relations Council, for example, advises on UW game-day parking and transportation, naming rights for sports facilities, and the way the UW is represented in advertising. Facilities and Services Council reviews plans for new facilities and had a huge part to play in the remodel of Husky Stadium a few years back. Student Affairs Council advises on all aspects of intercollegiate athletics, but especially the well-being of student athletes.

And those Huskies who play in the Apple Cup but don’t make it to the NFL? They’ll tell you years later that they’re glad they stuck it out and met their degree requirements – courtesy, of course, of the Academic Standards Council.
