Health Sciences Express Audience Reach

The Health Sciences Express buses travel every 15 minutes between the University of Washington Medical Center, the Roosevelt Clinic, and Harborview Medical Center, with the number of passengers averaging around 33,000 per month. The service is open to the public, however, the majority of riders are affiliated with the University Medical Centers.

HEALTH SCIENCE EXPRESS

Service Information

The Health Sciences Express (HSE) provides transportation between the UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center, with stops at the UW Roosevelt Clinic and the UW Tower. Service is available to UW faculty, staff, students, as well as medical center patients and their families.

All buses are wheelchair lift equipped.
All HSE buses are equipped with two-position bike racks.

Mission

The Health Sciences Express bus services was established in 1973 to move Health Sciences, Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) faculty, staff, students, and selected medical commodities between the University of Washington and some affiliated hospitals and branch University facilities in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. The service facilitates Health Sciences, HMC and UWMC operations by assisting University faculty, staff, students, and medical center patients and their families in conducting University, Health Sciences and Medical Center related business.

The service provides a partial alternative to use of the private automobile, thereby substantially reducing vehicle congestion on city streets and reducing the requirement for parking at the University and affiliated destinations. The service is not intended to serve as an alternative to other modes of commuting for University and non-University employees and students.

The Health Sciences Express bus service is supported by funding from University of Washington, UWMC and HMC. The Health Sciences Express Advisory Committee is under Health Sciences Administration, Office of the Executive Director. June 30, 1993.

Located near entrance on the North side of Republican St. between 8th and 9th Ave N, in passenger load zone. Stop 15.

Located near entrance on the north side of Republican St. between 8th and 9th Ave N, in passenger load zone. Stop 15.

SCRI

There are two stops at this facility. If you’re traveling south to HMC the stop is on 9th Ave & Stewart St. Stop 17. If you’re traveling north to South Lake Union, the stop is on Terry Ave & Stewart St. Stop 20.

East side of 9th Ave between Spring St. & Seneca St. Stop 19.

South Lake Union Shuttle

Service Information

UW South Lake Union Shuttle (SLU) consists of two routes: UWMC to South Lake Union and South Lake Union to Harborview, with stops at certain affiliated medical research facilities.

Service is available to UW faculty, staff, students, as well as medical center patients and their families.

Passengers traveling from UWMC to Harborview must change shuttles at SLU/Republican, or take the Health Sciences Express.

RIDER ALERT: Effectively Immediately (Sept 24, 2012): Hitchcock North stop has been relocated to the north side of NE Columbia Rd at the D-Wing shelter.

RIDER ALERT: Starting July 2, UW South Lake Union Shuttles will no longer stop at the Eastlake clinic (UW Physicians). Riders should note that shuttles that used to stop at Eastlake will depart South Lake Union two minutes earlier.

RIDER ALERT: On July 2, the SCRI north bound stop will relocate from Stewart St to Terry Ave, just north of Stewart St. Signage will be placed at these locations.

Mercer Corridor Project
At this time there are no impacts to SLU shuttle service, but please be aware of the occasional delays that may occur due to construction.

Service Information

NightRide is a shuttle service that provides a safe and easy way for U-PASS members to get home at night.

All shuttles are wheelchair accessible.

Campus Stop Locations

Shuttles run every 20 minutes picking up passengers from 6 locations around campus before dropping passengers off at requested destinations within one of two zones.

Shuttle Schedule

Shuttle service runs from 8 p.m. until midnight, Monday through Friday (excluding University holidays and summer quarter). For Spring Quarter 2013, NightRide will run until 1:30 a.m. as a pilot project to test for student demand after midnight.

UWPD Husky NightWalk

Husky NightWalk provides uniformed safety guards to walk with you to increase your personal safety on and around campus. The service is available to the University community 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. seven days a week, excluding University holidays. Please contact the UW Police Department’s Husky NightWalk Service at (206) 685-9255 for more information, or to schedule an escort.
