Packing Peanuts
Recycling & Solid Waste has a reuse program for Styrofoam and all other types of packing peanuts.
Small Volumes of Packing Peanuts
Offices and labs that generate small volumes of packing peanuts should collect them in clear bags, with no contamination. Close full bags securely with tape and label them with your department name and box number. Place the bags at your building’s loading dock by the recycling containers. If your building does not have a loading dock, contact Recycling & Solid Waste to request pickup.
Large Volumes of Packing Peanuts
Offices and labs that generate large volumes of packing peanuts can contact Recycling & Solid Waste to establish a collection system, which is a PVC pipe frame on which a packing peanut bag hangs. If you have a collection system in place, use the Packing Peanut Bags Request Form to request additional bags. Close full bags securely with tape and place them at your building’s loading dock. For staff within Health Sciences, bring your full bags to one of the following locations:
- AA-wing loading dock
- K-wing loading dock
- G-wing loading dock (in the small room through the double doors at the back of the dock)
Note: polystyrene and Styrofoam blocks are not recyclable and should be placed in your waste container. For large quantities, contact Recycling & Solid Waste to make special arrangements.
