HFS Compostable Serviceware

As part of the larger campus composting program, Housing and Food Services has compostable serviceware available at all of their food service locations and for events catered by Bay Laurel Catering.

Live Green. Work Green. Go Green.

UW Tower employees are the first on campus to receive new Self-Service Personal Recycle Bins and Mini Waste Bins.

UW Club Composting

Since 2004, the UW Club has been collecting food waste as part of the campus composting program. What began as a pilot program is now very much a part of the Club’s culture.

Scram: Student Moveout

At the end of each academic year, students in the residence halls have the opportunity to donate their unwanted items, such as clothing and food, to local charitable organizations through Scram: Student Moveout.

School of Drama Set

By using packing peanuts that had been collected on campus, the School of Drama was able to fill 10 beanbag chairs for the set of Fair Play. What a great – and free – opportunity for reuse!

Football - HuskyTron

Each year Recycling & Solid Waste partners with ICA to promote stadium and tailgating recycling at Husky Stadium through the power of HuskyTron. It doesn’t get much bigger than this!

Shop 53 Carpet Recycling

The Shop 53 Flooring Team recycles the carpet they remove and offers material selections that are made partially or entirely from reclaimed carpet that, when removed, can be made into new carpet again.

Husky Football Outreach

Recycling & Solid Waste outreach staff distribute recycle bags to tailgaters to promote recycling at game-day parties. The outreach crew travels through the parking lots with the Dawgcycling toter—a fan favorite.

Salmon Composting

In a partnership between the Fisheries Department and Recycling & Solid Waste that started in 2005, between 6 and 15 tons of salmon carcasses are diverted from the waste stream and turned into nutrient-rich compost each year.

Paper recycling: No sorting required

Single bagit stand Permanent paper toter

Staff no longer need to sort their paper. Recycling & Solid Waste, in cooperation with Custodial Services, has replaced the old bagits with new bagits for all recyclable paper. Silver bins have also been replaced—now all paper is consolidated into mixed paper toters that are serviced on site by a Recycling & Solid Waste truck.

Need interoffice envelopes? Boxes of free recycled envelopes are placed in front of the Accounts Payable and Travel Offices (3917 University Way NE, 2nd floor) between 8:00am and 5:00pm on Fridays. Campus customers can stop by and choose the size and quantity they need.
