Sharing the Ride: Carpooling and Vanpooling
Carpooling or vanpooling are great ways to commute to work or school. Ride together and avoid paying for an SOV permit to park alone. Get access to high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lanes and on-ramps for a faster commute. Mix up your commute as needed: bus, bike, walk or drive alone on days when you cannot share the ride.
Carpools
Carpooling is a flexible, cost-saving commute option for UW employees and student U-PASS holders. You can carpool all the time or on an occasional basis to supplement your regular commute mode.
Permit Carpools: See the Quarterly & Annual Carpool Permit page for more information on this option.
Impromptu Carpooling: See the Impromptu Carpooling page for more information on this option.
Need help connecting with other riders and drivers?
UW has partnered with Zimride to provide a convenient way to match up with other students, faculty and staff.
You can also get connected with RideshareOnline which is managed by Washington State Department of Transportation and currently available in Washington and Idaho.
Vanpools
Vanpools are groups of 5 to 15 who live at least 3 miles away from the UW Seattle campus and share the commute in a van owned, maintained and insured by one of the transit agencies.
Visitors
Consider sharing a ride to that football or basketball game or concert. It’s easy to connect with riders and drivers through RideshareOnline or Zimride or if you do not belong to a private Zimride network, you can post to the Public Zimride network
