Whether you're moving to UW Tower, elsewhere on campus, or just thinking about a change in your commute, Commuter Services is planning a series of Transportation Fairs to help you make smart commute choices wherever you live and however you want to go. The next Transportation Fair will be held in late August and will also include Recycling and Solid Waste. Ride a Bike Ride your bike to work. Or, if your commute is too long to make that practical, bring your bike on a bus or vanpool. You can even get off a mile or so from campus and get your day's excercise by pedaling the rest of the way in. Secure your bike in the garage or at one of the bike racks around the building. It's great to have a bike to get you to a meeting on campus, a dentist appointment on the Ave, or even for a lunchtime ride along the Burke Gilman Trail.     For more information on biking at UW and around Seattle [GO] Seattle bike paths An extensive walking map of campus in PDF format   Metro buses can fit two or three bicycles. Read instructions on loading a bike   Share Your Ride to the UW Tower   Carpool If you are going to be driving your car to the UW Tower, consider hooking up with another U-PASS holder. If you commute to campus together at least 3 days a week, you can purchase a carpool permit from Commuter Services (3901 University Way NE). Find a carpool partner: RideshareOnline or Vanpool A vanpool is a group of 5-15 people who come to campus together in vans owned by Metro, Community Transit, Island Transit, or Kitsap Transit. The transit company pays for insurance, vehicle maintenance and fuel. U-PASS holders receive $40 a month toward their vanpool fare and vanpools park on campus for free! Also, most vanpool vehicles have a rack for your bike. If you drive occassionally, you can purchase up to 26 Individual Commuter Tickets (ICTs) per quarter. Purchase a parking permit if you will need to park more regularly. Are parking spaces available close by for employees? Yes. The UW Tower has a secure parking garage with spaces for cars and bicycles. My department is among the first group to move to the UW Tower. Will parking be available for us when we move in? Yes. Commuter Services will assume operation of the parking garage on February 27, 2008. Commuter Services is also working closely with the UW Tower move coordinators, Susan Smith and Kim Wisecup to ensure that all special needs are met. My department has a Fleet Services vehicle. Will I still have access to it? UW Fleet vehicles assigned to individual departments will be able to park in the UW Tower garage. It has not yet been decided if they will reside all on one level or in one area. Initially you can park where you need to. However, departments are encouraged to consider using the UCAR vehicles for trips involving University business. Can I park for free? No. Permits are required for any campus parking. A traffic guide will be available at the entrance if you need to purchase a permit. What if I already have a parking permit? Will I have to purchase a new one? No. All current valid permits, Individual Commuter Tickets (ICTs) or Departmental Commuter Tickets (DCTs) will be honored in the garage—no matter the assigned lot. My current permit designates a lot far from the UW Tower. How do I get the lot designation changed? Commuter Services will streamline the process and change it for you through the annual renewal process is April/May. In the meantime, once you have moved into the UW Tower, your current permit will be honored in the garage regardless of the lot designated. I don’t currently have a parking permit. How do I get one and how much will it cost? You can purchase a parking permit from Commuter Services at 3901 University Way between 7:30 and 5 on weekdays, Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) permits cost $254.76/quarter* Motorcycle/Scooter permits cost $84.96/quarter U-PASS fees are waived for Daytime SOV and Motorcycle/scooter permit purchasers Carpool Permits cost $18 per month (you must have a U-PASS) ICTs are for parking 2 times per week or less tickets are $5.20 per day or $3.06 per day for U-PASS holders. Initially the garage service booth will be staffed from 6 am to 6 pm. Employee assigned to work at the UW Tower will have access to the garage at any time with their keycard. Later in March the hours may shift to 9  am to 9 pm depending on how many departments are moved into the building and garage usage. Will visitors be able to park in the garage ? Yes. There is more than ample space available to fulfill the needs of both employees and visitors coming to the building. We'll have more details about how visitor parking in the garage here when they are available.     UW Shuttles UW Shuttle services will serve the UW Tower connecting it to campus, UWMC, and Harborview. UW Tower Shuttle Stops Dial-a-Ride stop 129 - the stop is located at the passenger load zone on Brooklyn (near the main entrance) Effective Monday, March 31, 2008 Health Sciences Express will be adding a stop at UW Tower both outbound from and inbound to UWMC. The stop will be located at the northeast corner of NE 43rd St and 12th Ave NE. Visit the UW Shuttles website for more information.   For Persons with Disabilities Dial-a-Ride is a shuttle equipped with wheelchair lifts. The UW Access Guide for Persons with Disabilities       Recycling and Solid Waste Personal Recycle and Mini Waste Bins UW Tower is the first Seattle campus building to receive new Self-Service Personal Recycle Bins and Mini Waste Bins. UW Recycling provides two bins to all UW Tower staff for their workstations. New Personal Recycle Bins are durable, and a good-looking alternative to the temporary cardboard boxes. New Personal Mini Waste Bins reduce office clutter and decrease waste. They don’t require plastic liner bags, and they can be hung on the side of your Personal Recycle Bin. Rinse out your Mini Waste Bin to keep it clean. What's in? Personal Recycle Bin Personal Mini Waste Bin Custodial staff are not responsible for servicing the Personal Recycle Bin, Mini Waste Bin, or any deskside bin. UW Tower staff are responsible for emptying the provided bins into centrally located paper recycling or waste containers. Moving & Surplus What to do with unneeded furniture and equipment Let UW Surplus take the stress out of moving the office furniture and equipment you don’t need any more. Simply visit www.uwsurplus.com and under Removal of Material choose Getting Started. From this page Click here for the surplus online request form will take you to the Surplus Property online request form. After submitting your request you will receive notification that includes your request number. To make any changes, email UW Surplus at surplus@u.washington.edu or call 206-685-1573 ext. 7, with your request number. To make the pick-up process go smoothly, tag your surplus items. UW Surplus can provide tags and instructions. What to do with furniture and equipment that you still need If you are requesting a pickup for your unneeded items and you have furniture and equipment that you want to take with you, Surplus and Moving Services will coordinate this with you and the Move Coordinator. Can I deliver my items to the UW Surplus Warehouse? Departments have the option to deliver their items to the surplus warehouse. For delivery hours and the location of the warehouse visit www.uwsurplus.com and under Removal of Material select Delivery to Surplus. In 2008, Transportation Services is launching a campus EBike program. The UW will be the first campus in the nation to offer the electric assist bike rental program. And the UW Tower will have the very first Ebike station. The new program, called “SeaGo,” will offer UW students, faculty and staff electric assist bicycles for an hourly fee. Running errands and heading across campus, or even off-campus, for meetings will be easy and fast.
