The University of Washington: Facilities Services

Goals

While continuing to provide responsive support to existing FS systems, we bring in new systems on time and under budget. Months listed are target dates. We are intimately involved in FS operations and enjoy a strong rapport with our employees, customers and partners. We will leverage that strength through process improvement.

Promote FS Accountability by Improving Customer Communications — July 2007

Fix “Desired Date” bug in FME. This will retain customer’s desired date and communicate it to the crews.

Create a Collaborative GIS Initiative — August 2007

Start an interdepartmental task force to integrate GIS with other facilities management systems similar to the current SIMS-FME-CRIS model. Set up GIS server and determine goals.

Refine Employee Setup Express to Provide One-Stop Service — September 2007

This successful administrative service will expand beyond the departments in FME to support the development of an FS-wide employee database.

Complete ITAC/IMAC Shop Inventory Project — October 2007

Complete integration of barcode-enabled PDAs with the University’s Facilities & Asset Management System to automate Operations, Maintenance and Alterations materials and equipment inventory.

Standardize Our Individual and Organization Measures — November 2007

Update TS organizational page to express our objectives and achievements in terms of FS’s Balanced Score Card. Assist other FS units in standardizing their own individual and performance measures. (Schedule dependent on FS BSC progress.)

Promote Image of FS Professionalism Through Our Web Pages — January 2008

Improve the FS image by expanding current web standardization initiative to include all pages produced by any FS unit.

Consolidate Intranet Efforts — February 2008

Reduce duplication of effort by bringing FS wide documentation into a central location. Allow departmentally controlled areas/intranets that provide information that serves more narrow groups and link to those areas/intranets from the central FS intranet.

Convert FS Stores Operation from JD Edwards to Maximus — March 2008

Under Finance & Administration leadership minimize learning curve, decrease costs, increase compatibility and pilot new practices to exploit our site license and expand the deployment of FME / FacilityMAX to new departments.

Simplify the Service Request System Through Redesign — April 2008

Simplify FSWORKS with minimal steps for each type of work order. Provide wizard- like flow conforming to the nature of customer need. Expand the service request system by maximizing compatibility and accessibility. Certify achievements of the highest possible web standards.

Integrate the Service Request System with Non-FME Systems — May 2008

Expand FSWORKS entry and inquiry compatibility beyond FME. Make compatible with both FME and FacilityMAX. Consider compatibility with Wheels and other systems.

Add New Service Provider to FS-WORKS: Custodial Services — June 2008

Under Custodial Services leadership implement CS maintenance management in FacilityMAX to expand the service request system. This will also pilot FacilityMAX for use by current FME users.
