FY2009 Charge Rate

Prior to January 1, 2008 University Stores functioned as a self sustaining unit providing materials and equipment for the campus community. The cost of these activities, which was included in the materials costs charged to Facilities Services, and, therefore, to our customers, ranged from 12% to 37% depending on the type of service and commodity provided. On January 1, 2008 University Stores dissolved and a new entity, Facilities Services Stores was created to handle procurement and inventory management operations for Facilities Services.

The transition from University Stores to Facilities Services Stores resulted in operations savings that will be passed along to you. While there is still a cost for procurement services, that cost has decreased from an overall average of 17% to 14%. The reduction is achieved through more efficient organization structure and operations and a less costly work management system. The changes you will notice in fiscal year 2009 are a slight decrease in materials costs and improved operations efficiency.
