A Billion Acts of Green

UW has been recognized for its collected "acts of green" inspired by Earth Day 2011.
Initiated by the Earth Day Network, the 2011 Billion Acts of Green challenge sought to inspire individuals to take extra steps toward Earth-friendly and sustainable practices. Recycling & Solid Waste teamed up with the Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability Office to engage students and promote acts of green.
An act of green is a simple individual gesture, such as printing double-sided, volunteering or riding a bike instead of driving. The concept is that real change can occur when millions of people each contribute to an effort in a small way. Recycling & Solid Waste contributed acts of green to the contest on behalf of volunteers at this year's Trash-In, and collected acts submitted by staff throughout the Building Services department.
The UW earned 2nd place out of universities and colleges with more than 4,000 students.
