In 2010, math and computer science major William Johnson was the first UW undergraduate student to be named a Putnam Fellow, placing among the top five out of more than 4,000 students who competed. The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, an elite and grueling college-math contest, has been held annually for the past 72 years.
