Discover the UW: Institute for Protein Design

As a top research university, the University of Washington is producing technology and research that is changing the world. The Institute for Protein Design works to design a new world of proteins to address 21st century challenges in medicine, energy and technology. Under the leadership of Dr. David Baker, the IPD has already generated five spinout companies, revealed 37 new inventions and applied for 55 patents with six issued.

Dr. Baker and his team created Rosetta, a computational program that is the world standard for researchers working to understand protein structure. It allows for modeling of protein structures as design of proteins with novel functions.
