A block of rooms are being held at the University Tower Hotel at a special rate ($99 per night, single/double occupancy) for symposium attendees until 12/26/04. After registering for the Symposium, please contact the hotel directly to make your reservation and let them know you will be attending the "UW Emergency Management Symposium."

Preparing for Symposium 2005 and your visit to Seattle
Weather
Seattle's weather in January is unpredictable. The average temperature in late January ranges from 36-48 degrees, but has also been as low as 16 and as high as 60 degrees. You can almost count on overcast days and possibly even rain. But then again, it could be clear and sunny, and you'll agree, the bluest skies you'll ever see are in Seattle!

Attire
Please dress comfortably in business casual attire for Symposium 2005. Considering our weather fluctuations, we recommend dressing in layers. A sweater to keep you warm and a raincoat or parka to keep dry will probably suffice. Good walking shoes that will keep your feet dry as you walk across campus are also recommended. Bring an umbrella just in case it rains.
Note: While it rarely dips below freezing in the winter, the chill is often ÒdampÓ due to the rain and may feel colder than the temperature indicates.
Transportation

If you're flying into SeaTac International Airport, you will take I-5 north, pass through downtown Seattle, to the University of Washington campus. On a good day without traffic, it will only take you 25-30 minutes. Take exit 169 to reach the University Tower Hotel and the UW campus. The University Tower Hotel is approximately a 15-minute walk to the location of the Symposium at the HUB (see below), so please make accommodations to allow for ample walking (or driving) times to the campus.

Parking - $9.00 per day. We recommend that you park in the Central Plaza Parking Garage (enter at 15th NE and NE 41st). The HUB is a 5 minute walk from this parking garage.

Location of Symposium 2005 on University of Washington campus
Symposium 2005 will be held in the University of Washington HUB - (Student) Husky Union Building in the north central part of campus. Link to campus map:

The general sessions will be held in the West Ballroom on the second floor. The breakout sessions will be in the meeting rooms on the second and third floors. All Rooms will be marked for the Symposium.
The hosted cocktail reception following the last session of the day on Thursday afternoon will be in the Washington Club, (formerly known as the Faculty Club), just northeast across the street from the HUB.
The University Tower Hotel is located two blocks from the northwest corner of the campus. The HUB is a pleasant 15 minute walk through campus from the hotel.
