4-Channel Audio
This work is an exploration on space and time, realized through the performance and manipulation of a reed instrument. Returning to a neglected and broken accordion as both a source and an inspiration, the piece attempts to reach a compositional and musical agreement, exploring beauty in the dissonance and disrepair of an instrumental organism. This work strives to convey feelings of triumph, failure, birth, death and re-birth. In order to explore these themes, the piece utilizes a spatial framework that structures and guides the narrative of the work.
About the Artist:
Toby McKes is a multi-media artist exploring spatial and temporal manipulation, realized through experiential audio composition and interactive systems art. His works strive to embody both performance and organic narrative. Toby is completing his BFA in DXARTS at the University of Washington.
