News Roundup: Lessons we can learn

By Fa’aumu Elsea and Geetika Mukkamala

Talofa, and welcome back to Dream Project. It is 2018, but we are not going to flashback to some really old news articles from last year (no thank you). Instead, we looked ahead to help you learn how Dream Project is part of a bigger world of education and social justice. Here is what we are talking about:

  • You may be familiar with these themes from last year’s Washington State legislative session. Guess what? Education funding (!) remains a hot topic for 2018.
  • A local organization supporting foster youth is helping to increase graduation rates. Here are lessons we can learn about supporting marginalized students.
  • Remember to vote by February 13 ($)! Dozens of school districts in Washington State have placed levies on ballots. Federal Way and Highline are just a few.

  • Social justice comes in many different forms. For indigenous communities at the University District, part of “social justice” means keeping languages alive.

We hope you will continue to stay engaged in and support the Dream Project.
