Summer 2013 Opportunities

Rainier Beach Summer School 

Rainier Beach is hosting a summer school program and is looking to fill a few positions. The program itself runs from June 24th-August 2, 8:30 AM-2:30 AM, with a training week June 17-21, 9 AM-12 PM, but not all of the opportunities require attendance all day or all weeks. Here are the options:

  • Classroom Aide (2-3 positons) – (Position information) Requires participation in the whole program including the training week. There is some flexibility in whether you would stay the whole day but you would be utilized primarily during the mornings (9AM-12PM).
  • College and Career Mentors (1-2 positions) – Would serve on: 6/26, 7/3, 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31 from 12:45-2:30PM. This position will support college and career coaches during their series of workshops.
  • Hype Team (3 positions) – Any day of the 6 week program, come hang out from 8:15-9:00 during breakfast to connect with kids and get them hyped for the day.
  • Field Trip Chaperone – Would serve on: 6/27, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, or 8/1. Would be a chaperone for half or full day field trips. The trips and times are still being solidified.

University Tutors for Seattle Schools

University Tutors for Seattle Schools (UTSS) seeks paid tutors for the 2013-14 school year to assist students in regular-day and after-school work in Seattle Public School classrooms, as well as in individual and small group tutoring situations outside of classrooms.

Qualities desired are academic skills in Mathematics and/or Language Arts, experience working with children and youth, urban experience or at least exposure, relational initiative, dependability, and ability to communicate with teachers, students and other adults about any and all aspects of the educational tasks at hand.  Approximately 10-20 hrs. per week at $11.25-13.00 per hour, arranged to fit with students’ course schedules.
