...During August 1994, the Department of Electrical Engineering assisted the DO-IT program (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking and Technology) in offering a Consumer Electronics Workshop to disabled high school students. the primarily laboratory-based workshop session introduced students to fundamental concepts about time and frequency, A/D and D/A conversion, basic digital storage, and error detection and correction. Students were then allowed to experiment with various consumer products (primarily digital audio products) which demonstrated these fundamental concepts in a real-world application....
