The following Ambassadors began participating in DO-IT as Scholars in 1995. They continue to pursue college and career goals and encourage younger DO-IT Scholars and Ambassadors.
Blind
Graduated from University of Minnesota, Crookston with a bachelor's degree in information technology management. Certified vision rehabilitation therapist. Currently is working on master's degree in instructional design and technology at the University of North Dakota. Works as an assistive technology specialist for Minnesota State Services for the Blind.
Learning disability
Helped build Toyota pickups.
Attention deficit disorder and learning disability
Has worked in a technical support role.
Muscular dystrophy
Had a strong desire to go to college and open his own computer drafting business when he died of complications from pneumonia in 1996.
Psoriatic arthritis
Attended Shoreline Community College.
Quadriplegia
Attended both Central and Eastern Washington University.
Dyslexia
Attended college courses and is interested in architecture.
Cerebral palsy
Earned a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation from Southern Illinois University. Received master's degree in social work at Grand Valley State University. Worked as a graduate assistant for the School of Social Work and in program development at a child abuse prevention agency.
Learning disability
Completed college coursework and works in the medical field.
Quadriplegia
Earned a bachelor's degree in social services at Central Washington University and a web design certificate from the Art Institute online. Works as a small business owner providing web design services. Engaged in disability rights groups, including the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council.
Deaf
Attended Pierce College and has been working as a journeyman glazier working with commercial glass for about five years. Plays on a Northwest National Softball Association of the Deaf team and is coaching this year. Is married with two boys.
Brain injury
Pursuing a successful career as a door maker.
Hearing impairment
Earned a bachelor's degree in biology and speech and hearing sciences from Whitman College. Earned a doctorate in audiology from the University of Washington. Works as a pediatric audiologist at Children's (hospital) in Seattle.
Epidermolysis bullosa
Attended the University of Washington with an interest in technical communication.
Mobility impairment
Earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and a master's degree from the University of San Diego. Worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis. In 2009, served as Ms. Wheelchair Washington, and was first runner up for Ms. Wheelchair America.
Cerebral palsy
Attended college courses and continues to be interested in computers.
Spinal cord injury and quadraplegia
Entrepreneur and founder of the Todd Stabelfeldt Foundation.
Renal failure and hearing loss
Earned teaching degree and certificate.
Cerebral palsy
Worked as a web accessibility specialist, a disability advocate, and personal care assistant. Received Presidential Volunteer Services Award in 2010.
