Accessibility of DO-IT Websites
The DO-IT pages form a living document and are regularly updated. We strive to make them accessible and usable by everyone, including:
- Individuals who are blind and use either audible output (products called screen readers that read web content using synthesized speech) or tactile output (a refreshable Braille device).
- Individuals with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, who might also use audible output or other assistive technologies.
- Individuals with low vision who might use screen magnification software that allows them to zoom into a portion of the visual screen.
- Individuals with less-than-perfect eyesight who might enlarge the font on websites using standard browser functions.
- Individuals who are color blind and require content to be presented in a way that does not depend on their ability to distinguish between colors.
- Individuals with fine motor impairments who might be unable to use a mouse, and instead rely exclusively on keyboard commands, or use assistive technologies such as speech recognition, head pointers, mouth sticks, or eye-gaze tracking systems.
- Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and require captions or transcripts of video and audio content.
- Individuals with low bandwidth Internet access who benefit from some of the same features as users with disabilities (e.g., alternate text on images since pages load much faster with images turned off; transcripts for videos since they might be unable video to play videos).
- Individuals using Apple iPhones or IPads, who are unable to access content that requires Adobe Flash.
In order to assure that our site is accessible and usable by everyone, we make every effort to validate our code as we update pages, and to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.
