Image maps are inaccessible to people using screen readers.
Image maps are a popular way to help people navigate the Web using a graphic representation that can be clicked on. For example, maps of the US could be presented and users could click on a state for information about that state. However, these image maps appear as "blank" for computers that are reading the "text" of a Web site. Text alternatives are easily created but often neglected by Web designers.
