Not all students who claim they have a learning disability are eligible for accommodations.
The University of Colorado-Boulder, for example, turns down about 60 percent of the 100-150 students each semester who claim they are learning disabled. Often students are seeking accommodations such as extended test-taking time, but lack the appropriate documentation of their learning disability. Students need to have a qualified professional document their learning disability and register with the disabled student services office to qualify for accommodations. The disabled students services staff uses this information to determine what accommodations are reasonable for each student.
