Did You Know?

Increasing the support system of a student with a disability can enhance academic success.

In a 1993 study by Smith and Nelson, 36 college students with disabilities were asked to identify factors that influenced their academic success. Factors identified in the social support and social climate category were:

  • Family support.

  • Interaction with other students.

  • Interaction with faculty.

  • University support services.
