Did You Know?

Deaf Culture is a unique culture with its own values, language, and traditions.

In American Deaf culture, members communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) and almost all language experiences are centered around deafness, which is considered a shared experience and common bond. Not all individuals who are deaf are members of the Deaf community. Some individuals are raised in hearing households where signed or spoken English is the primary means of communication. These children may have limited contact with others who are deaf.
